Vintage Danish Brass Ships Table Lamps - Price is for the pair (2)

Authentic, original art deco era Danish brass maritime table lamps - truly one-off items that you will not find elsewhere.

These are extremely special lamps as they are from one of the ferries in service between the Danish towns of Korsør and Nyborg.

The porcelain lamp holders are in cradles allowing them to tilt so the light stays upright even in choppy waters.

They would have been on the seated areas inside the ferry, possibly the dining car.

They have classic, elegant styling with attractive detailing.

Made of brass with the traditional porcelain lamp holders. The bases are weighted with iron for stability.

Note: these are extremely old lamps and, although fully restored and working, if sold outside of the UK they are on a ‘sold as seen’ basis with no returns.

Made in Denmark at some point between the 1920s and 1950s.

They are both slightly lopsided / tilting in exactly the same way so we presume this was part of the design to maximise their functionality in their nautical setting.

Excellent fully working vintage condition with minor signs of age.

Approximately 26cm high and 12cm wide at the base. They weigh 1.05kg each.

The rail and ferry crossing between Korsør and Nyborg opened in 1885 and was known at ‘The Big Belt’. It went through adaptations to take cars and electrification, and was in service until it was replaced by a bridge in 1997.

Fully and thoroughly restored and refurbished. When acquired they had salt corrosion and were not working. They have been completely taken apart and cleaned up.

Rewired with black vintage style cable and a switch on the cable for convenience.

We can fit a UK/Irish, European, Australia/NZ plug. Note because of the all metal construction we will fit a 3 pin earthed plug.

Takes an E27 light bulb, maximum 40w, not included. Please note the lampholders do have some wear over the years and therefore you will need to fully wind the bulb and may even need to try more than one type bulb (as they can vary very slightly in size).
